Missing Murfreesboro man recovered at Walter Hill Dam

The search for a missing Murfreesboro man ended Monday afternoon when his body was recovered from the Stones River, according to a press release from the Murfreesboro Police Department.

Murfreesboro Police responded to Walter Hill Park, 5430 Lebanon Pike, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 1 about a possible missing person.

Family members reported last having contact with Walter Corley, 59, of Murfreesboro around 3:00 p.m. Officers searched the scene and could not locate Corley or any of his belongings.

Items belonging to Corley were located by the family this morning.

During a subsequent search, his body was located and recovered in the river near the Walter Hill Dam.

Multiple agencies participated in the search efforts and are listed below: Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department, Rutherford County Fire Department, Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services’ Special Operations Response Team, Lascassas Fire Department, Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, and Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency.

At this time, the cause of death is believed to be drowning, however, the investigation is ongoing.
