Summer gets more deadly in Murfreesboro with second killing in three days

Murfreesboro police detectives are investigating their second killing in three days after a man was found in his car with deadly gunshot wounds.

Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a call of shots fired at around 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6 in the area of East Street and Ewing Boulevard.

Upon arrival, officers found an adult male victim, identified as James Matthew Poynter, in the driver seat of a vehicle in the driveway of 614 East St. suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was treated on scene by Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department personnel and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services who then transported to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

Poynter, 39, of Murfreesboro was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.

There is no suspect information at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
