For the first time in school history, a pair of students from Siegel High School — Andrew Bruce and Don Kim — recently competed at the National High School Model United Nations Conference.
Bruce, a senior, and Kim, a junior, were part of an all-star delegation representing the Southeastern High School Model UN Conference. In New York, their team was ranked in the Top 25 and earned the Small Delegation Award of Merit for their collective preparation and performance in debate.
This is the third highest honor the conference offers.
The New York event hosted 5,000 participants from more than 75 countries and 300 schools.
It is one of the largest and most diverse conferences in the world.
Bruce competed in the UN Development Program, while Kim was in the UN Conference on Trade and Development. They represented the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire and debated pressing global issues such as gender-based violence and the paradigm of the oceans’ economy.
Bruce and Kim had previously earned Best Delegate in their committees at the Southeastern High School Model UN Conference last fall in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
