Stewarts Creek Middle School Band Director, Brittany Jerrell, was recently selected by the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity to receive a full scholarship for the 2019 Conn-Selmer Institute.
Jerrell is the only band director in Tennessee to receive the scholarship, which is designated for an early career band director who demonstrates great potential as a music educator.
Conn-Selmer is the leading manufacturer and distributor of music instruments for student, amateur and professional use.
Attendees receive up to 37 hours of professional development credit and earn two credits from the Vandercook College of Music.
The Stewarts Creek Middle School Band has been recognized as one of the top band programs in Tennessee.
Jerrell joined the Stewarts Creek team in August after finishing her first year of teaching in Macon County, Tennessee.
"Mrs. Jerrell established a reputation as an exceptional student at MTSU and did fine work during her time in Macon County, so we were excited when she chose to interview at SCMS last summer," said fellow band director Andrew Lynn.
Stewarts Creek Middle Principal Dr. Letoni Murry added, "Mrs. Jerrell has been a dedicated faculty member and has worked diligently to contribute to the success of our band program, and we are thrilled she is being honored with this scholarship."
