At the request of District Attorney General Jennings Jones, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances that led to a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday night around 8 p.m. in the 100 block of Chestnut Street in Smyrna.
According to a press release from the TBI, preliminary information indicates officers with the Smyrna Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call at this address.
A male individual, identified as William Lamb, 76, was reported to have fired a weapon inside the home, and another resident was barricaded inside another room.
Reports from the scene indicate that when the officer entered the home, Lamb fired at the officer. The officer fired at Lamb, striking him.
Lamb was transported to a local hospital, where he has been pronounced deceased.
No officers were injured.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation, as TBI Special Agents continue to work to gather any and all relevant interviews and evidence. As with any case, TBI’s investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for his review.
As is agency policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to the respective department.
