The Rutherford County Arts Alliance hosted a three-day, community, mural-painting event on the exterior wall of Vine Street Marketplace over the weekend of Oct. 18-20.

Designed by local artist Norris Hall, the new piece depicts iconic places in the city including the County Courthouse, Murfreesboro City Hall courtyard and rotunda, and former First United Methodist Church.

Ginny Togrye, mural chair and founding chair of the RAA, along with fellow mural artists, assisted Hall in the installation and detail painting of the mural. Citizens age 16 and up joined the professional artists of the RAA Saturday to help paint the design, while children enjoyed painting their own paper mini-murals on tables in the kid's area.

Central Magnet junior Mira Patel member of the Youth Council for Rutherford Arts Alliance and daughter of Paul and Tina Patel, originally brought the idea of putting artistic murals in the downtown area to the RAA.

Funding for the project was provided by Wren Jones, Pam Kious, Rhea Seddon, Lucinda Lea, Patty Marschel, Marilyn Newsom, Bev Macsherry, and Andrea Loughry.
