Patina Interiors is a hidden gem off St. Andrews Drive

Patina Interiors is located off of St. Andrews in one of the many small strip malls that have opened along the street.

It opened five years ago when Tony and Karen Gentile moved to Murfreesboro in 2015. They saw a need for a consignment home décor store dedicated to accent pieces and small furniture. They also carry many one-of-a-kind items from exotic Asian antiques to mid-century kitsch.

"This was right up their alley," said new partner Mishelle Perkins, "as Karen is an excellent decorator, and Tony appreciates what home décor can do for a living space."

The main philosophy behind the store is that "Decorating should be fun, not expensive!" Both Gentiles believe design is a way for their clients to express themselves. They work hard to find pieces that are beautiful, one-of-a-kind, and functional while keeping them at reasonable prices. The store is also a wonderful way for people to offer items they no longer want or need. It is a blend of vintage and gently used.

As you walk into the store, you will see quite an array of items, including unique items such as Chinese Scholar Chairs from the 1800s, an Edison Player with over 100 records from the early 1900s, and Hull Pottery from the 1940s. Patina's carries fine china, crystal from various countries, Fostoria, Fenton and Carnival glass. They also carry jewelry, art, textiles, and even some gardening items.

Besides the items that the Gentiles bring into the store, there are also numerous vendors that rent space from them, bringing their products and their talents to their sales floor.  If you are shopping at Patina's, you are shopping for uncommon finds.

"When we decorate our homes," said Perkins, "it tells friends and family what is in our soul, who we are.  Contrary to what some believe, there can be no wrong [item] in your home décor if it works for you.  You live there and if it makes you happy, well then, it's right!"

Perkins just joined the team, bringing her love of unique décor, thrifting, merchandising, and marketing to the Patina's team. She believes that in a time when people are focused on repurposing, recycling and reusing, that shopping at a consignment store for décor just makes sense…especially financially!

"Our prices start as low as 50 cents," said Perkins, "and go as high at $1,400. We have something for everyone!"

For those wanting help with decorating tips, just bring in a photo or photos of your home or space with which you want decorating ideas. She has helped numerous customers find just the right piece.

"If I can see into their world," said Perkins, "chances are we can work together to find a piece that is perfect and priced right!"

Additionally, Perkins will be focusing on new social media efforts, customer outreach, and creating a coalition of thrift, consignment, and do-it-yourself businesses in Rutherford county.  Her belief is that like-minded businesses can benefit from a shared customer base, all whom would enjoy the camaraderie, information, and mass-marketing events.

"It isn't too soon to start shopping for Christmas either," said Perkins. "Your entire gift list can benefit from amazing items chosen specifically for their personality, loves or hobby.  Consider making your holiday dollar go much farther -- shop consignment, shop local, and shop Patina's Interiors."
