2019 was one of the wettest on record for Middle Tennessee and the rain Sunday night didn't help with the ranking.
With a few days left before the roaring '20s begin, 2019 ranks third for precipitation in Nashville with 64.27 inches. The wettest was 1979 with more than 70 inches recorded. Weather records for Nashville date back to 1871.
The rain continued Sunday evening with the midstate seeing 2.5 inches in just a few hours, which caused roads to flood in all the usual places.
Flooding caused the closure of Vaught and Murray Kittrell Road in the Kittrell community in eastern Rutherford County and One Mile Lane and Baker Road in the Almaville community near Smyrna.
The following roads were impassable:
- Paw Paw Springs Road and Independent Hill Road;
- Del Thomas Road at Paw Paw Springs Road;
- Miller Estates Road and Florence Road;
- The 5496 block of Seminary Road;
- The Stones River slab; and
- County Farm Road and Rucker Road.
Almaville Road and Morton Lane; West Jefferson Pike and Powells Chapel Road; George Franklin Road and Miller Estates; Cherry Lane and Abigail Avenue; Epps Mill Road between Wayside and Plainview Roads; and Rockdale Fellowship Road and Couchville Pike were listed as passable roads with high water.
