The United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties announced it is accepting proposals for funding related to its "Bold Goals 2030" initiative, which focuses on early childhood success, affordable housing, and basic needs.
Proposals may be submitted at www.yourlocaluw.org/2020RFP until March 6. Grant awards will be announced no later than June 12.
After reviewing community data and polling its donors, the community at-large, and human services agencies, the local United Way has identified six key indicators to work collaboratively to address by 2030. Those indicators include:
- Decrease drug-related overdose deaths and suicides by 25% or more.
- Improve mental health by 25% or more.
- Achieve 80% or more of households paying less than 30% of their income on housing.
- Achieve 50% or more of children kindergarten-ready.
- Achieve 30% or less of public school students and adults overweight or obese.
- Achieve 75% or more of households above the ALICE threshold (ALICE = Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed).
"While our community is a great place to live and work, not everyone is doing well," said Meagan Flippin, president and CEO of United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties. "Too many kids start school already behind their peers, too many people cannot afford their basic necessities, including housing, and too many people are dying early. The consequences of these lost opportunities are staggering – both economically and socially.
"Our mission is to improve lives by advancing opportunities for education, health and financial stability for all. Our focus this year with regard to funding is on our Bold Goals 2030 initiative, which requires cross-sector partners to come together in a new, more intentional way," Flippin said.
United Way expects to open a request for proposals for services related to mental health, substance abuse, and nutrition/obesity in 2021.
