Day in Corona: Bill Ketron surfaces and what Smyrna and La Vergne are doing

Mar 24, 2020 at 09:52 am by Michelle Willard

While mayors from across the state (including Shane McFarland) have been doing everything they can to reassure the public, our County Mayor Bill Ketron has been suspiciously absent.

Then on Monday, he (and his pinky ring) made a brief appearance on the YouTube with a 3-minute message that was meant to be ressuring. I'm not sure it was, possibly because of the pinky ring.

Ketron neglected to inform the public if county offices will be limited to walk-in traffic.

So, Rutherford County Property Assessor Rob Mitchell took matters into his own hands and closed his office to walk-in services until further notice.

"As we begin to recognize the impact of transmission of COVID-19, it is imperative we take whatever steps we can to mitigate its impact on the health and operation of government services," Mitchell said.

If you need help, call or email his office:

• Website and online Chat function at https://rcpatn.com/;
• Real Property at 615-898-7750 or assessor@rutherfordcountytn.gov;
• Business Personal Property at 615-898-7761 or personalproperty@rutherfordcountytn.gov.

Ketron wasn't the only local mayor who attempted to reassure the public. Mary Esther Reed also released a video, but she included StoneCrest Chief Medical Officer Dr. Eric Schuck in hers.

Meanwhile, La Vergne finally took things seriously and closed indefinitely all lobbies at city buildings. This includes City Hall, 5093 Murfreesboro Rd.; Stormwater, 5175 Murfreesboro Rd.; Parks and Recreation, 294 Sand Hill Rd.; and Public Works, 148 International Blvd.

"Staff will reevaluate on a weekly basis to determine the time frame for these temporary measures," the announcement said
