Tennessee Nights In June
~by P Jackson
It was one of those Tennessee
nights in June
some call it a “southern swoon”
when summer’s breath
drips heavy of lilac
and honeysuckle perfume
And in the stilness
of this garden room
sometime around midnight’s noon
you may catch the sound
of a wandering breeze
or a wayward muse
softly crooning
the refrain of some old, familiar
gospel tune
serenading the stars
all lit up like moons
But that’s nothing new
for Tennessee
nights in June
For those of you who have lived in Tennessee for an extended period of time, you may enjoy, as I do, the beauty of our clear, night skies. There are times when, unable to fall asleep, I have decided to go out in our backyard, sit in a lawn chair and bask in the wonder of our Tennessee night skies. And after sitting with the wonder and beauty, I was able to go back to bed and sleep peacefully.
Currently, we are right in the phase of the full moon. So, if you are so inclined to see the beauty of the moon on a clear night, as well as the stars, you might want to set your clock, set up your lawn chair, and enjoy the southern swoon of a Tennessee night in June.
