Math is one of the most important subjects students in Rutherford County, and Tennessee need to focus on moving forward,  Numeracy refers to the ability to understand and work with numbers, mathematical concepts, and mathematical operations in various real-life situations. It goes beyond basic arithmetic skills and involves a broader understanding of how numbers and mathematical principles influence decision-making, problem-solving, and critical thinking in everyday life. Mathematics, or math, is important for several reasons:

  1. Practical Applications: Math is used in everyday situations, such as budgeting, shopping, cooking, and measuring. Basic math skills are necessary for making informed decisions and functioning effectively in society.

  2. Problem-Solving: Math teaches analytical and logical thinking, which are crucial for solving complex problems in various fields. It encourages systematic approaches to finding solutions.

  3. Critical Thinking: Math requires reasoning and evaluating information. It promotes the development of critical thinking skills that are transferable to other areas of life.
