UPDATE: Murfreesboro Police ID victim in downtown shooting

Murfreesboro Police are searching for a suspect in a shooting that was reported around 5 a.m. Thursday, May 3 on South University Street, according to MPD.

 

The incident was reported as a "shots fired" call for service around 5 a.m., MPD spokeswoman Amy Norville said in a press release. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim in the street.

"Upon arrival officers found an adult male victim lying in the roadway of the 400 block of S. University Street with multiple gunshot wounds," she said.

The victim was identified as Byrus M. Hughes, 32. He was treated on the scene before Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services transported him to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Hughes is listed in critical but stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center at this time.

No suspect information is available at this time as this is an ongoing investigation in the preliminary stages.
