On Monday, May 21, a possible bomb at Walter Hill Park on Lebanon Road was reported to the Murfreesboro Police Department.

Officers arrived and spoke with first responders from the Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department who had interviewed the complainant, who led the firefighters into the woods.

"While approaching that area, MFRD observed a (white female) with blue hair holding the possible 'pipe bomb.' One of the firefighters commanded her to put it down, at which point she did then run back into the woods with her dog," the incident report said.

The MPD officer reported he saw the "pipe bomb" with a fuse laying in the grass.

When the blue-haired woman was found, she told police she "noticed the 'firecracker' in a knot hole of a tree and took it out so it would not hurt the tree."

Tennessee Highway Patrol sent its bomb squad. The experts deployed the bomb in a safe fashion and discovered it was filled with smokeless powder.

No other explosives were found in the area.
