RUTHERFORD Cable begins a year-long celebration of its 10th anniversary

Have you ever wondered if you need a mentor to help you grow in your business or organization?

To get an answer to this question, and to learn more about mentoring, join us at RUTHERFORD Cable Tuesday, Aug. 14 to find out. The meeting begins at 7:30 a.m. and will conclude at 9 a.m. at Stones River Country Club.

Guests are encouraged to attend and can register at rutherfordcable.org

Rebecca Climer, former Saint Thomas Health Chief Marketing Officer (now retired), is now Of Counsel with health care consulting company Jarrard, Phillips, Cate and Hancock, and will be our keynote speaker that morning.

This meeting and Climer’s keynote presentation are part of the year-long celebration of RUTHERFORD Cable’s 10th anniversary. All five Founders of RUTHERFORD Cable, including local businesswomen Andrea Loughry, Robbie Uselton, Stephanie Brackman, Terri Sterling Donovan and Rebecca Climer, will be recognized at the August meeting.

Climer says the term “mentor” has evolved from being a noun, typically used to describe a more experienced professional guiding a younger protégée, to a verb that today describes an action that is dynamic, intentional and beneficial to both the mentor and the mentee.

“When people are entering the workforce for the first time, looking to change or enhance their careers, or simply wanting to master a new skill, the mentoring relationship can be key to achieving short-term and long-term goals,” Climer said.

In her presentation, Climer will discuss how the mentoring role has evolved over time, the benefits of the mentoring relationship to both mentor and mentee, roles and responsibilities of both and steps to establish and maintain a positive relationship, the difference between a mentor and a coach, and mentoring both in and out of the work environment.

“I want people to come away from our morning together and be able to successfully articulate whether or not they believe they need a mentor or would like to be a mentor,” Climer added.  Attendees will also receive a list of resources about mentoring.

The RUTHERFORD Cable monthly meeting is Tues., Aug. 14 at Stones River Country Club, 1830 N.W. Broad St. in Murfreesboro. RUTHERFORD Cable members and guests are welcome, and the public is invited to attend. The cost for the meeting is $20 for members and $25 for non-members and includes breakfast. Reservations are available online at rutherfordcable.org and must be completed by Noon Friday, Aug. 10. A limited number of seats will be available for walk-ups on a first-come, first-serve basis with an additional $5 late-registration fee.

Rebecca Climer is a veteran healthcare communications professional and serves as “of counsel” to Jarrard Phillips Cate and Hancock agency clients in Nashville and Chicago.
