In October 2017, many Murfreesboro residents proudly displayed #MurfreesboroLoves logos in their businesses, at their homes, on their campuses, and on their social media feeds in support of a community that takes action against hate.
One year later, on Oct. 12, from 6 to 9 pm, the Boro Art Crawl will celebrate the success of this campaign and highlight the city’s favorable location as the geographic center of the state.
To mark this anniversary, a community art project titled, “Heart of Tennessee/Murfreesboro Loves,” will debut 24, large aluminum hearts, painted by area artists, around the courthouse square.
Participating artists include Lisa Sims, Richard Spry, Susan Rodehaver, Diane Stockard, Sharon Mayeux, April Broussard, Susan Gulley, Kay Currie, Lewis and Eric Snyder, Sheryl Ann Miller Turman, Susan LeBeau, Phil Wagner, Delaney Fitzhugh, Carol Berning, Dawn Magliacano, Norris Hall, Mira Patel, Ashley Buchanon, Lisa Browning, Abby Reish, Sharon Kolli, Ginny Togrye, Poet Kory Wells, and Janice Reeves. Local poet and musician Greg Reish will also take part in the celebration.
The hearts will be displayed around the Public Square throughout the fall and then designed into a public sculpture to be donated to the city.
This project unites the many creative artisans already at work in the community and contributes to a type of creative place making and aesthetic essential to attracting investors, residents, and tourists to the city. This is also a STEAM approved event.
Many generous community business partners have stepped up to support this project including Vanderbilt Heart, TN Women’s Care, Midstate Radiology, Parks Realty, Puckett’s, Discovery Center, Murfreesboro Pulse, Murfreesboro Medical Clinic, Wild about Smiles, Realtor Kathy Jones, Smile Doctors, Realtor Rita Ash, Creative Visions, Sims Realty, and the Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Still needed are sponsorships of $250 to underwrite the individual hearts and assemble them into a public sculpture.
This project provides a unique and lasting way for businesses to identify themselves not only with Murfreesboro’s growing art community, but also with a strong statement of who Murfreesboro is as a community.
