A Rutherford County Detention Center deputy was terminated Friday after being indicted by the grand jury, said Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh.

William Jones, 26, of Murfreesboro was charged with sexual battery and official misconduct.

Acting on a complaint from an inmate, Fitzhugh asked detectives to investigate.

Detectives gave the results to the district attorney’s office and presented the case to the grand jury who issued the indictment.

Jones was booked into the Detention Center where he is held on $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to be in Circuit Court Oct. 15.

He was employed by the Sheriff’s Office in July 2017.
