A routine patrol check ended Wednesday, Oct. 17 with an officer injured and a car chase into Coffee County, according to the Murfreesboro Police Department.

Around 2:10 a.m. Wednesday, a Murfreesboro Police officer was conducting a patrol check of the parking area of the Select Inn, 2424 S. Church St., when he found two individuals sitting in a car.

He approached and attempted to speak with them. They were uncooperative and fled the scene. As they fled the officer was struck by the vehicle.

He was able to return to his patrol vehicle and attempt to stop them. They failed to stop and continued traveling onto I-24.

Murfreesboro Police officers aided by Rutherford County Sheriff's deputies did pursue the vehicle into Coffee County until the vehicle was stopped by Coffee County Sheriff's deputies through the use of a tire deflation device.

The driver then physically resisted officers and a Taser device was deployed in order to take him into custody.

The two were identified as Justin Arwood and Sarah Dalton (Pictured above).

Dalton was found to have an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for Violation of Probation. Arwood had an outstanding hold warrant and now faces additional charges of Driving on a Revoked License, Reckless Driving, Felony Evading Arrest and Aggravated Assault.

They were both booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital.
