The Metro Diner

The Metro Diner is opening for business on Dec. 4, according to the guy who answered the phone.

Once it opens, The Metro Diner will serve "serious diner food" from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Sunday.

The Florida-based restaurant is set to open in a new multi-tenant commercial development at 711 North Thompson Lane (near Medical Center Parkway).

According to its website, The Metro Diner first opened in 1992 in Jacksonville, Fla. Since then it has become a breakfast destination. In 2000, master chef Mark Davoli and family took over and elevated the menu to include award-winning dishes created from local ingredients.

In 2015, the Davoli family sold the concept to ConSul Hospitality. Since then, the family-owned restaurant has become a far-flung chain with restaurants in Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

McCalister's Deli will open Nov. 12, according to The Daily News Journal.

The deli, which has been serving giant baked potatoes since 1999 on Memorial Boulevard, bought the building formerly known as Peter D’s American Southern Bistro in April.

In the time since, the Mississippi-based company has been remodeling the building at 2357 Medical Center Parkway.

Modifications include new sets of doors on the east side of the building and the front to provide access to an existing patio and the window awnings. McAlister’s also made a few aesthetic changes to better fit with the company’s brand.
