Greenhouse Ministries has a new leader, and he has hit the ground running. Phillip Street began his tenure as Greenhouse’s chief executive officer on June 1 following the departure of predecessor Bill Rawnsley.
Street comes to Greenhouse Ministries following a successful career in the automotive industry. He recently retired from Nissan North America, where he served as Director of Purchasing Strategy, Administration, and Cost Control, previously serving in leadership positions in manufacturing, quality, total delivered cost, and purchasing.
Prior to his career with Nissan, Street held plant management positions with a Tier 1 automotive supplier. He is an active community volunteer, and has served on several boards, including those of both the United Way and the Natural Science Museum in Jackson, Mississippi, and the Automotive Industry Action Group in Detroit, Michigan.
Street earned both his Master of Business Administration and his Bachelor of Business Administration degrees from the University of Memphis.
Although a fast-paced manufacturing career does not allow for much spare time, Street used what extra time he had over the years to volunteer in both Canton and in Murfreesboro in a variety of capacities, such as through establishing a housing transition program for the working poor, mentoring, counseling, assisting with food distribution, teaching in both church and street ministry programs, and serving with multiple domestic as well as foreign mission experiences.
“Greenhouse Ministries allows me to fulfill my passion for helping people as well as to utilize my business background to further our outreach into the community,” he said.
Street is combining his business acumen with a passion for service to help Greenhouse develop new ways to meet people where they are. “We are looking forward to the future and expansion of both our building and our programs. With our new facility, Greenhouse Ministries is well positioned to improve and expand all of our fundamental services including education, counseling, and meeting immediate needs of our clients,” he said.
Greenhouse quietly embarked upon a capital campaign to fund a $5.2 million 25,000 square foot building to expand its downtown campus and provide affordable housing as well as renovations to its current facility. The majority of funding has been raised, and the campaign is now in its public phase; the campaign committee seeks to raise the remaining $300,000 by September 1 in order to be eligible for matching funds that will enable groundbreaking this fall.
Greenhouse Ministries is a nondenominational, faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1999. Its mission statement reads: “Greenhouse Ministries, through local volunteers, provides relational ministries that are designed to inspire, give hope, and change lives”. Located at 309 S. Spring Street in downtown Murfreesboro, Greenhouse seeks to “move people out of their current situations of hopelessness and help them see their God-given potential”. Its services include professional counseling, a nursing clinic, occupational therapy, education programs, job skills training, and food distribution.
