3 local attorneys recommended to fill 16th Judicial District Circuit Court vacancy

The Trial Court Vacancy Commission announced Thursday, Nov. 12 that it had narrowed down the choice to three for the 16th Judicial District Circuit Court vacancy created by David Bragg's retirement.

The commission had been asked to consider five candidates for the court that covers Rutherford and Cannon counties. Bragg will retire effective Jan. 1, 2021.

After holding a public hearing and conducting public interviews, the Commission selected the following individuals to forward to Governor Bill Lee for his consideration:

Trevor H. Lynch

Lynch is an assistant district attorney in the 16th Judicial District. He has practiced since 2001, the entirety of which he has worked in the DA's office.

John "Jack" G. Mitchell III

Mitchell is the managing partner for Mitchell & Mitchell, Attorneys at Law. Mitchell has worked in private practice since becoming licensed in 1990. He currently focuses on criminal defense. Mitchell ran unsuccessfully for Circuit Court Judge Division IV in August.

James A. Turner

Turner is a private practice attorney for Oliver & Turner in Murfreesboro. He also serves as the city attorney for Eagleville. In private practice, Turner focuses on criminal defense.
