United Way’s financial empowerment program, Launch Point

The United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties was awarded a $5,000 grant from State Farm to support United Way’s financial empowerment program, Launch Point. The program offers pathways for participants to increase savings, improve credit, purchase a home or car, pay off debt and increase earning potential. Launch Point provides individuals with trusted resources to help them gain greater control over their personal financial goals.

“We started the Launch Point program last year to connect Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program clients with financial empowerment services like budgeting and credit management.  We want clients to be able to not only keep the money that they have earned but to also learn how to manage that money to meet their personal goals,” said Kristen Swann of the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties. “With the continued support of State Farm, we will be able to expand the Launch Point program to help more families achieve financial stability.”

While our local human services sector offers many services to promote financial stability, a fragmented delivery system creates challenges and barriers that prevent families from successfully maximizing these much-needed supports. The grant from State Farm provides the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties the opportunity to streamline access to multiple financial stability resources and eliminate services silos that have previously prevented individuals from achieving financial stability.

“State Farm is proud to support the Launch Point program once again,” said Judy McConkey, Corporate Responsibility Analyst for State Farm. “Part of State Farm’s mission is to help people realize their dreams and becoming financially stable goes a long way in helping people attain their dreams.”

The United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties has convened best in class partners to provide the following services: credit and money management, first-time home buyer counseling, financial coaching and workshops, free tax preparation, small business development, job skills and trainings, and college assistance programs.
