Smyrna Police Officer, Local Realtor, and political outsider Jonathan Beverly announced today that he will run for Rutherford County Commissioner, District 6 in 2022 to improve Rutherford County's infrastructure, support our public schools, and improve workforce development to attract new business to Rutherford County.

"I've spent the last eight years serving Smyrna citizens as a police officer with the Smyrna Police Department, I've served my fellow officers as the president of the local Fraternal Order of Police, and I'm excited about the opportunity to serve the people of District 6 on the Rutherford County Commission," said Beverly.

Beverly understands that infrastructure is the backbone of Rutherford County and the county must prioritize infrastructure.

"Infrastructure for roads is paramount to maintaining our attractive perception for residents and businesses alike. The ability for people to get to their jobs and homes along with commercial logistical operations is of the utmost importance," Beverly said.

Schools are what attracts families to Rutherford County, and it is important that Rutherford County builds a school system that empower students, retain teachers, and anticipates for the next generation. Rutherford County has to remain competitive on pay for teachers and staff. We have to look at ways to improve retention of our teachers. Fifty percent of teachers leave the profession after five years. Rutherford County should also prioritize vocational opportunities to prepare students for a successful career after graduation.

To set Rutherford County up for continued success, Rutherford County must build a well insulated & diverse economy in case of economic downturn.

"I will work closely with our state delegation, local municipalities, Chamber of Commerce, and Rutherford County Industrial Development Board to attract new businesses," he said. "I bring a desire to be a part of a sensible government, accountable to the people. I act with integrity, where I make decisions I can stand with in front of my God, my family, and my fellow citizens. I'm looking forward to earning the votes of the people of District 6."

Beverly started his career with the Smyrna Police Department in 2013 and is currently a Field Training Officer for the department. In summer of 2021, Beverly launched the J. Beverly Team of Benchmark, Realty, LLC and currently has two other agents working on his team. Beverly is a past member of the North Rutherford YMCA Board of Directors, and current Board Member of the Boy's and Girl's Club along with the Smyrna Rotary Club. Beverly is a graduate of Smyrna High School, Middle Tennessee State University, and Bethel University. He is a current member of the Smyrna Rotary Club and President of the Fraternal Order of Police. Beverly is married to Amanda, a special education teacher in the Rutherford County School system.
