“The Child Advocacy Center is hosting the local 11th annual 19 Days of Activism for the Prevention of Violence Against Children and Youth by partnering with local agencies to increase awareness about child abuse,” said Community Education Coordinator Carrie Norvell. “The goal is to educate the community through a social media campaign on how to protect children from child abuse, how to react responsibly, and report suspected abuse.”
Several Rutherford and Cannon County agencies have partnered to create a social media campaign to bring awareness to 19 different topics pertaining to violence against children and youth. Each agency will share a post on their social media page about a form of violence against children. You can help increase awareness by following each organization and sharing their social media posts from Nov. 1-19.

The Child Advocacy Center works as a multi-disciplinary team with Children’s Services, law enforcement, and the District Attorney’s Office to respond to child abuse cases, investigate the crime, aggressively prosecute offenders, help children heal from the trauma, and help families rebuild their shattered lives.
Tennessee is one of 18 states whose law requires that any person who has reasonable cause to believe that a child is being harmed by abuse or neglect must immediately make a report to the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services or local law enforcement. Reports can be made anonymously to the DCS child abuse reporting hotline at 877-237-0004 or to local law enforcement by calling 911.
