(Rutherford County, TN) State Rep. Mike Sparks, R-Smyrna, has officially received an endorsement for re-election in state House District 49 from the Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association (TPFFA).

“Representative Mike Sparks has always been a steady, thoughtful, proactive and compassionate leader in the Tennessee Legislature, and we appreciate his commitment to issues that are important to firefighters,” TPFFA President Matthew Tomek said. “Sparks has always maintained an open-door policy, and we know that his support of first responders makes a difference. It is clear that Mike Sparks not only respects the service and sacrifices that our members make on a daily basis, he also turns that into action to enact the policies we need to protect the health and safety of firefighters across the state.”

Sparks is seeking re-election to House District 49, which includes portions of Murfreesboro, Smyrna and La Vergne in northwest Rutherford County. Sparks previously served on the Smyrna Planning Committee from 2001 until 2010, and as a Rutherford County Commissioner from 2002 until 2010 before being elected to the Tennessee General Assembly.

“I’m grateful to have the Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association’s endorsement,” Sparks said. “TPFFA is integral to providing fire fighters across the state with needed resources while promoting legislation that helps the emergency response community. Our firefighters selflessly enter high risk, dangerous and often traumatic situations daily to keep us safe. The issue of trauma, depression and suicide and what our firefighters, police and EMS personnel see is extremely important to me. I will continue to support them in any way I can in the General Assembly."

Sparks serves on the House Finance Committee, Commerce Committee and Education and Instruction Committee. He can be reached at 615-741-6829 or by emailing Rep.Mike.Sparks@capitol.tn.gov.
