Before I got the email, I was thinking it was about time for some new Chris Janson music because it had been a few years since he put new music out.
Fueled by Mountain Dew®, Chris Janson’s high-octane show puts this human hummingbird right at the top of my all-time favorite live performers.
Between 2015 and 2019, Janson had a run of hits including two Country Airplay Number Ones, “Good Vibes” and “Done,” as well as top five hits “Buy Me a Boat” and “Fix a Drink.” “Drunk Girl,” which reached No. 7 in 2017, received CMA Award nominations for song of the year and music video of the year in 2018. However, his and my favorite song is the autobiographical, “Redneck Life.”
After seven years with Warner Nashville, Janson recently inked a deal with BMLG Records and his own Harpeth 60 Records now falls under that umbrella.
Big Machine Label Group Chairman and CEO Scott Borchetta said that “Chris has always been a force of nature and he’s coming to BMLG at the perfect time to take his career next level.”
Janson describes his new venture as a “self-created clean slate.”
“I had a wonderful run in the past couple of years with my previous label. But it was time for a change and I cleaned the slate so to speak. I made the great move to Big Machine with my Harpeth 60 imprint. It felt like the right energy for me to come here. It was a natural fit. It’s been a great start to the new year,” he concedes.
Since signing with BMLG in the fall of 2022, Janson immediately began working on new music.
He was so ready to get new music out that they cut 12 songs in two days. And for most people that would be an impossible task.
Janson states, “My recording process is a little different from other people. We try to play things straight live and get it done in a pass or two.”
He and co-producer Julian Raymond (whom Janson states is the best he’s ever worked with) handpicked the band and it was people who they knew could build the foundation.
The Opry member recalled, “It was such an amazing two-day roller coaster, it was emotional with the last song because there was real strong brotherhood in the studio.”
The first song being released off the new record is the romantic, “All I Need Is You.”
“It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written. ‘All I Need Is You’ is definitely a standout.” He continued, “Sometimes it takes a minute for singles to feel correct when you play them live. This one fits like a glove.”
The song is 100% about his wife, Kelly, whom he says is “the greatest inspiration to write about.”
With the lyrics When that sun goes down at the end of the day/ There’s just one thing I can’t lose/ If you’re by my side I’m better than alright/ Baby, all I need is you the song is a perfect tribute for those of us who are fortunate enough to have found our forever love.
Janson has already begun his extensive nationwide Live Tour playing his fans’ favorite tunes while promoting his new songs ahead of a record release later this year. He will be playing the Opry on February 7th and May 2nd. He will play the Mulehouse in Columbia on March 31st.
