I’ve learned that you can write a Christmas or Wedding song that “sticks,” and you can generate income for life. SmithField’s Trey Smith married in November of 2023, and Jennifer Fielder tied the knot in October 2024. Naturally, these sensational songwriters wrote songs for their weddings.
Since songwriters mostly write about real life, it only made sense for these two newlyweds to release an EP focusing on their experiences. Love You to the Moon is a collection of four love songs purposely released on Valentine’s Day for those happily celebrating their significant other.
On the EP are wedding versions of previously released hits “If It Ain’t You” and one of my all-time favorite songs, “We’ll Figure It Out,” a song SmithField wrote as they were literally trying to figure out what was next for them as a band. As it is with many timeless tunes, the lyrics apply to various scenarios, and for newlyweds, the words are appropriate:
Baby, the truth is, nobody knows what they're doing/ I don't have the why, when or how/ But we'll figure it out, we'll figure it out/ Highways or dirt roads/ Sunset highs and heartbreak lows/ Together, there ain't no doubt, we'll figure it out, we'll figure it out.
Jenn explained, “We wrote it from a tough place, and it ended up being a really beautiful love song that people have used in literally hundreds, if not thousands, of weddings. And we were like, ‘Okay. Well, we should make a wedding version for everybody on their big days.’ But, originally, it was not written to be a love song.”
Trey's song for his wedding day, “To The Moon,” is a beautiful serenade to his wife, Cayce. Opening with a violin intro, he declares his unending love by stating: Those rocky mountain highs ain’t high enough/ That California sunset, it can’t touch your touch/ Ten thousand times around this world won’t do/ No treasure would ever measure up cause baby I’ll always love you to the moon.
And while Jenn calls Trey a “hopeless romantic,” the same cannot be said for her. She shared, “I'm over here dating the same guy for eight years. I'm like, ‘Oh, I don't really want to get married.’ It just was not something that was a goal of mine. I grew up dreaming about what I would wear to the CMA Awards, not what I would wear at my wedding.”
But when she finally decided to take the plunge and marry long-time love Cam Marburger, her song had to be authentic, hence the title, “Never Gonna Get Married.”
The words How do you say ‘I do’ when you don’t know what you’re getting’ into/ Now I lay my head down lying next to my best friend/ All is right in this ol’ world, with dog at the foot of our bed/ Life would be so lonely, wouldn’t know how good it’d be/ Nothing ‘bout this love is scary/ Can’t believe that me before you/ never wanted to get married express her heartfelt honesty.
“It takes a special person to make somebody who didn’t want to get married,” Jenn admitted.
Produced by Trey, SmithField’s Love You To The Moon celebrates love in all forms. The EP offers listeners an intimate journey through the moments and emotions that have defined their most personal relationships.
This past Christmas, the duo released “Merry Married Christmas,” a joyous song honoring their spouses. Because their wedding/love songs are so popular, this spring/summer SmithField is volunteering to play at your wedding in lieu of an official tour. If you want to schedule Jenn and Trey to be a part of your (or someone you know) special day, please email them at SmithfieldSocials@gmail.com for more information.
