Breaking news! The city of Murfreesboro has a sense of humor.
Here I was, working with the Thursday night Murfreesboro City Council meeting playing in the background as I do sometimes. And, lo, what happens but Shane McFarland becomes my favorite person in the world.
"I have asked staff, so you know, on the bridge that we are going to prepare a resolution to … that will your approval that we are going to honorarily call the bridge Bridgey McBridgeface," McFarland said, adding quickly "Just for one day."
You heard that right. Murfreesboro is going to nickname the Bridge over Broad as Bridgey McBridgeface!
Thank you to the more than 4,500 people who signed Jeanne Vest's Change.org petition.
Vest said she was inspired by an article on the Voice to start the petition.
"As Bridgey McBridgeface, Bridgey McBridgeface will make every passing motorist smile. Bummed out during your commute? Well, take a look at that official city marker right there -- you're riding on Bridgey McBridgeface, my friend! Now turn that frown upside-down!" she wrote on her petition.
My joy was tempered by Councilman Eddie Smotherman's proposal to name the west park, Blackman Park. Boring.
And then he suggested naming things in the park – pavilions, fields and parking lots – after all the important men who have come from Murfreesboro. Women do things too, Eddie!
Anyway, watch the video to see that I am not hallucinating.
