It's High School football time in Tennessee!

Regular season play kicked off for teams across the Volunteer State Friday night. Region 3-6A's Blackman Blaze traveled to Hendersonville to open the season.

While the Commandos took an early 3-0 lead and led 10-7 midway through the second quarter, Blackman took over from there and never looked back in a 28-10 win to open the 2018 football season.  

Here are three big things we learned about Blackman in the first week of play. 

Blackman's quick-strike offense too much for Hendersonville to overcome

After going down 3-0 in the first quarter, the Blaze started their drive with a flag for illegal procedure. Immediately following that flag, Hendersonville was flagged for a 5-yard penalty. From there, Blackman needed just three plays to march down the field and take the lead.

Blackman's offense struggled a bit on their next couple of possessions, but down 10-7, the Blaze regained their offensive mojo when Micaleous Elder's long scamper for six gave Blackman a 14-10 lead going into halftime. 

Blackman's last two touchdowns came on consecutive plays when senior RB Tamicus Napier ran 62-yards and 35-yards respectively for a pair of touchdowns with a Hendersonville three-and-out sandwiched in between the runs. 

Tamicus Napier had a big night

The senior transfer from McGavock High carried the ball 16 times, two of those carries being the aforementioned consecutive touchdowns.

"I was a little nervous. New school, new expectations," Napier said following the game. 

On the back-to-back touchdown runs, Napier said "I just trusted in the coaches and it happened. The feeling is unexplainable." 

With an effort like he had against Hendersonville, those expectations will only grow from here. At 5'7, 187lbs, Napier forced his will on the defense on a number of his other carries as well. 

Blackman supporters showed up in droves

There wasn't a single empty seat on the visitor's side Friday night. Blackman fans showed up and they were loud. They brought the entire band as well. There was even a rock band on the sideline performing in between some plays.

It was a remarkable showing for a group of supporters that had to make a one-hour drive through Nashville around the dreaded Friday evening rush hour.
