MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Fans tuning into the Blue Raider Network this year will hear a new voice alongside Voice of the Blue Raiders Chip Walters, as former MTSU Quarterback Jeff Murphy steps into the MTSU radio booth this season as the Blue Raiders' new color commentator for football.
Murphy, who played QB for MTSU from 2010-2012, was a permanent team captain during the 2012 season and is one of the hosts for the "Group of Five Guys" podcast that covers G5 football around the country. A California native, Murphy is the owner of Domenico's Italian Deli in downtown Murfreesboro.
"The school and the program have done so much for me in my life," Murphy said. "It brought me to Tennessee, it gave me the opportunity to come to MTSU on scholarship, to meet my wife and eventually my kids. I'm just excited to get back into the program."
Murphy takes over the post from Wes Counts, who was the Blue Raiders' color analyst since 2015. Counts stepped down from the Blue Raider network after being in the radio booth since 2015 to spend time developing future endeavors.
"There's been a line of quarterbacks in that spot, from Kelly (Holcomb) to Wes (Counts), so I'm excited to continue that tradition," Murphy said. "I can get really nerdy at times, my job is kind of to explain what I saw, the Xs and Os. Chip's been doing it for so long, so it's going to make my life really easy."
Murphy's first game on the mic will come on September 3, when MTSU travels to James Madison for the 2022 season opener. Fans can listen to every football game this season on the Blue Raider Network locally on WGNS RADIO - 1450 AM/100.5 FM/101.9 FM (Click to listen to WGNS)
