Rutherford County Fire-Rescue respond to Deer Run Road fire

At 6 p.m. Aug. 7, Rutherford County Fire-Rescue responded to a structure fire on Deer Run Road outside of Murfreesboro.

Heavy smoke and fire were seen upon arrival with flames shooting out of the top of the structure; the fire was reported to have started on the second story or in the attic and rapidly progressed.

Crews from Almaville Volunteer Fire Rescue Department, Lascassas Volunteer Fire Department and Christiana Volunteer Fire Department engaged in an interior attack as the fire spread quickly to engulf the home.

Without a water source close by multiple tankers were called in, water was shuttled from a hydrant a mile and a half away and a drop tank was employed – all made more difficult by the narrow gravel road.

Chief Larry Farley, Capt. Adam Rose and Lt. Andy Haston oversaw the rotation of firefighters battling the blaze, calling in additional resources to assist them due to limited water supply and manpower.

RCFR Special Operations used a drone to evaluate structural integrity and fire progression. Rutherford County EMS and Sheriff's Office also responded to the scene.

The residents and several animals were able to exit the home safely with no injuries.

The American Red Cross responded to provide water and nourishment for the firefighters and to assist the displaced residents. The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is being investigated.
