Murfreesboro voters get a chance to hear from candidates on the Aug. 6 ballot in a voter forum scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, at Murfreesboro City Hall.
Hosted by the League of Women Voters in partnership with Murfreesboro CityTV, the forum for Murfreesboro City Council candidates will begin at 6:00 PM. The forum will be cablecast live on Murfreesboro CityTV, live streamed on various channels, and available for later viewing. Due to Covid-19 concerns, only essential staff and immediate family members of the candidates will attend in person.
All four City Council candidates, who are vying for three available seats, have confirmed attendance. Candidates will introduce themselves and respond to a moderator’s questions on a timed basis. A pool of questions for the moderator’s usage are compiled by a League committee using citizen input.
The League attempts to schedule forums for all contested general elections. In order to assure impartiality and comply with FCC rules for televised events, a majority of candidates must agree to participate in order for the League to go forward with a forum, said Leslie Collum, Voter Services Chair.
The forum can be viewed live on Murfreesboro City TV on Comcast Xfinity channels 3 and 1094; AT&T Uverse channel 99; Roku; Amazon Fire TV; and Apple TV via Cablecast Screenweave. Live web-streaming of the forum will be available at www.murfreesborotn.gov/citytv, youtube.com/cityofmurfreesboro and on the City’s Facebook page at facebook.com/cityofmurfreesborotn. The League will also be holding a Facebook watch party on its page at facebook.com/lwvrutherford.
