A very special Valentine’s Day campaign is back! Your local Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Center has released details out their 2nd annual “Be the Love” campaign just in time. Your participation now and through the month of February will provide a meaningful message to a local survivor that they matter to this community serve as encouragement as they find safety in shelter, work through a legal order of protection, or as they are healing from the trauma through counseling.
Due to stigma, shame, and economic factors, intimate partner violence and sexual abuse are notorious for being extremely difficult to escape and heal. The Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Center (DVSAC) reports an average of 200+ individuals and families seeking their healing and protective services each month.
“When we launched this campaign last year, we did not expect the reaction we saw from the clients who received cards and flowers. Many shedding tears and disclosing they had never received a Valentine in their life,” said Kara Mischke, Community Relations Manager. “I remember our Shelter Manager calling me, in tears herself, expressing how impactful it was for shelter residents to all recive roses. A month later those roses were still alive, they did everything possible to keep the flowers alive in their rooms. We knew we had to bring this special campaign back this year to show other victims that they matter, and they are loved and are valuable to our community.”
In honor of Valentine’s Day, Be the Love for someone healing from intimate partner violence or sexual abuse. Starting now and running throughout the entire month of February, the Be the Love campaign allows for you to donate a Valentine’s day card, a single stem rose, or a bouquet of flowers to remind a survivor that they are being thought of and are worthy of love.
$15 provides a handmade “you are loved” card. $35 provides a single stem rose and a card. $100 provides a bouquet of flowers and a card.
