Following last Friday night's complete dominance of 6A dynasty Maryville, it was difficult to envision Oakland losing to Whitehaven in the Tennessee 6A Blue Cross Bowl.

On Thursday night in Cookeville, the Patriots picked up where they left off last week with yet another dominant effort against a really good opponent. Oakland defeated Whitehaven 37-0 to win the Tennessee 6A State Championship. 

The Patriots defense was stingy all night long as Whitehaven didn't pick up a first down on offense until just 38-seconds remained on the clock in the third quarter. Oakland's defense forced two turnovers as well.

On offense, star running back Xavier Myers ran the ball 29 times for 107 yards and a touchdown earning MVP honors for the game. Justin Jefferson and fullback Mookie Wilson chipped in 66 and 53 yards respectively, each adding a touchdown of their own. 

Oakland sustained many of their patented soul-crushing long drives on Thursday night. With four of their 11 drives lasting four-minutes-plus, Oakland's running game forced the Whitehaven defense to stay on the field most of the night. Conversely, the Tigers averaged barely over one minute per drive on 10 of their 11 possessions. 

The result offered a bit of sweet revenge for the Patriots.

In 2016, their last trip to the Blue Cross Bowl, Oakland led 9-0 against Whitehaven before the Tigers scored 12 fourth-quarter points to defeat the Patriots. In fact, Oakland's last three losses came at the hands of the two teams it combined to beat 75-0 in the final two playoff rounds this season. 

Over their last eight quarters, the Patriots defense allowed just 219 yards of total offense. 

This was Oakland's first state title since 2008.
